Chilled Wine @ HKTDC Wine and Spirits Fair

Chilled Wine @ HKTDC Wine and Spirits Fair

There is always a first time for everything: first crush, first kiss and the first attempt of seduction. From the 6-8th of November 2014 the Chilled Wine Team attended the HKTDC International Wine and Spirits Fair at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai for the first time. For three days more than 1,000 exhibitors from 34 countries and regions showcased white wines, red wines, Champagne and spirits, attracting more than 20,000 visitors.

The Chilled Wine booth 3C-A19, designed in style by marketing expert “MT”, displayed six innovative German vintners to show the buyers the face behind the wines at first sight. A variety of 36 German wines from the “Chosen Few” Trenz, Schneider, Siener, Ellermann-Spiegel, Daniel and Arnold were showcased at the stall. Besides local favorites Riesling and Sauvignon Blanc, other grape varieties like Chardonnay, Blanc De Noir, Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer left a lasting impression on the trade show visitors. On the red wine front a range of Pinot Noir and red wine blends/Cuvées including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Shiraz and St. Laurent as well as different Rosés were featured.

It was a fair with many highlights and great moments with four standing out in particular;

  1. The German Wine Institute featured two of Chilled Wine’s products at their heavily frequented degustation counter. Both, the Trenz Sparkling Brut Riesling and the Daniel Signature Riesling received overwhelming feedback from corporate and private buyers. Additionally, three wines were chosen to be presented at the “Top German Dry Wines” tasting (Siener – Mandelberg White Burgundy, Siener – Schiefer Riesling, Daniel – One Sauvignon Blanc).
  1. Four wines were also selected to be sampled at the event “A Glimpse of ProWein” that was co-hosted by Wineluxe and Pro Wine at the Indigo Hotel in Wan Chai. The wines (Schneider – Black Print Cuvée, Ellermann-Spiegel – Gewurztraminer, Siener – Schiefer Riesling, Daniel One Sauvignon Blanc) will also be featured with a review in Wineluxe’s December issue.
  1. On day two of the fair the Chilled Wine booth enjoyed the privilege of being promoted by HKTDC. A local wine expert showed and explained one white wine (Daniel – Blanc De Noir), one Rosé (Siener – Rosé) and one red wine (Schneider – Black Print Cuvée) to 30 wine writers and press representatives from Hong Kong and Mainland China. He also stated that the Black Print from Markus Schneider was the best German red wine he had tasted since joining the wine industry 20 years ago.
  1. It was close to the end of the fair when the magic happened. While other vendors already started packing up, booth 3C-A19 started to get wild. More and more wine lovers hunted for the team’s German wines, making the booth look like a busy bar.

Now please read the very first sentence of this blog once again. The conclusion is as simple as it gets: There is always a chance to get lucky on the first try.
