It was an event not to be missed by all wine lovers, wine enthusiasts or simply the ones who enjoy the company of quality alcohol. From the 5th to the 7th of December 2014 it was once again time for one of Hong Kong’s most enjoyable wine events, the Wine HK festival at the Central Harbourfront. Needless to say that the Chilled Wine team took part in Hong Kong’s largest pop-up wine cellar and participated with great joy at their rocking booth, number 64. Private customers were able to taste, enjoy and buy wines (with a minimum discounted rate of 20% off retail prices) from more than 100 booths with a variety of over 800 different white, red, sparkling and dessert wines from all around the globe.
Chilled Wine presented a variety of eight different German wines from their portfolio. In the red wine corner the Schneider Black Print Cuvée as well as Michael Trenz’s 2Two Merlot/Shiraz were to take on the competition and more than ready for a heavy weight upset. Schneider’s Saigner Rosé was, loosely based on Michael Buffer’s voice, also ready to rumble. On the white wine front the Daniel Sauvignon Blanc One was to be on everyone’s lips and not only because it was so different from most new world Sauvignon Blancs but as it was also featured at the Riedel Wine Tasting on day two of the festival. Furthermore, Ellermann-Spiegel’s Gewurztraminer was very popular with the local crowd. And that is rather an understatement as Frank’s sweet one is now sold out in Hong Kong. To round up Chilled Wine’s “great eight” (eight is considered the lucky number in Chinese culture) the Daniel off-dry Riesling, Trenz Steinhaus Riesling and last but not least Siener’s Schiefer Riesling were showcased.
Now let’s get to the interesting part, the competition that was launched during the three day event, where visitors could vote for their favourite wine in different categories. In the category “Best Red Wine between 100 and 300 HK$” the Schneider Black Print Cuvée led the competition right from the start and was just overtaken at the very last moment, finishing a great runner-up – pretty amazing for a German full-bodied red wine. Don’t you think? At the very end, Chilled Wine went out with a bang (you know how we do) and was honored to receive the Riedel People’s Choice award for two of their white wines. We are very proud to announce that the Daniel off-dry Riesling was elected Champion in the category “Best White Wine under 100 HK$” and the Siener Schiefer Riesling was chosen to triumph as the “Best White Wine between 100 and 300 HK$”.
Thanks to all of you who visited our booth 64 and to all who voted for the wines from the amazing winemakers that Chilled Wine represents in Hong Kong. The Wine HK festival was an absolute blast and we will be back next year. No doubt about it! Until then, raise your glass and drink like a Champion!
