On October 11th the Chilled Wine Team hosted its first corporate wine tasting event for the German company TÜV SÜD (a leading technical service corporation that embraces consultancy, inspection, tests as well as certification). The ten participants were welcomed with a glass of Peter Siener’s Riesling Sparkling Brut, a tingling delight to ease the guests into the right mood for the eight wines that were to be presented by the famous wine expert Dr. Know.
While the “Thirsty Ten” were given a short introduction about the Chilled Wine Team and concept, the first out of three Rieslings was served (Daniel – Riesling Dry). Additionally to the Doctor’s wise words about the wines & vineyards, each of the guests had the chance to rate the label, fragrance and taste of each wine (of course all wines presented finished well above average). The Trenz Steinhaus Riesling followed shortly afterwards (official wine of the German Football Federation) and matched perfectly with the salmon canapés and fresh oysters due to its dryness and high acidity. The last Riesling of the night was the Siener Koeppel Riesling, a smooth and elegant white wine that impressed with peach and mandarin flavor.
Leaving the Queen of Grapes behind, two White Burgundy were sampled, a grape that is known to go very well with cheese that was also offered to accompany the wines. Arnold’s White Burgundy Kalkmergel, an exotic dry beauty that delighted with its freshness and great bottle design went first into the glasses. It didn’t take too long until the group was craving for more, so the hosts followed up with Peter Siener’s Grand Cru Mandelberg White Burgundy. This wine knocked the ten guests off their chairs (not literally of course) as the black & golden bottle appearance held its promise and the inner part spoiled the palates with well balanced and full bodied complexity that left an impression (it was overall voted best among all wines).
Before serving the desert, two Rosés were introduced (Ellermann-Spiegel’s Windrose and Schneider’s Saigner Rosé). Last but not least the homemade Brownie was served and let’s be honest, nothing goes better with rich chocolate than a flowery and sweet Gewurztraminer from Ellermann-Spiegel. Before the night came to an end the guy who according to himself always wins the lucky draw, did actually win it again and chose a magnum bottle of Markus Schneider’s famous Black Print. One thing is for sure, TÜV SÜD stays CH!LLED
