Wine of the Week – Daniel’s D4 Cuvée 2011

Wine of the Week – Daniel’s D4 Cuvée 2011

For an ex consultant like Holger Daniel corporate business is like great wine, what matters most are synergies. This is exactly the case with his D4 red wine cuvée that combines four grapes (Cabernet Dorsa, Dakapo, Pinot Noir and St. Laurent), resulting in a dry and medium bodied wine leaving no doubts about the sensational taste of rather unknown grapes. The name D4 or as the Chilled Wine Team calls it “Awesome Foursome“ comes from the four mentioned grapes, as well as from its four distinctive flavours. The mixture of Vanilla, Mocha, Chocolate and Oakwood (as it was matured in an oak barrel) gives the wine a taste that some describe as addictive, heavenly or simply amazing. And who hasn’t dreamed of a “foursome” this delicious?

The vineyard Daniel likes to experiment and takes its time with its wines. As history has taught us, without experimenting there is no progress and without progress there is no quality (just think about Thomas Edison and his over 6,000 tries before the invention of the light bulb). No we are not comparing the invention of the light bulb with the creation of the D4, but there is an undeniable similarity: Both make life easier, the light bulb lightens up your surroundings and the D4 brightens your mood from within.
